The Dog Spot Petcare, Inc. offers training classes in a private 2,200 SF climate controlled training hall.  We believe that training creates a bond between owner and dog. 

Just like us, dogs learn through mistakes.  By setting up situations and working to correct them, our trainers enable the dog to think and learn without the use of treats.  Our training classes will give owners the knowledge to train their dog, showing both love and leadership as well as helping you live together happily and productively. 

The Dog Spot Petcare, Inc. requires that your pet be at least 4 months of age and current on all vaccinations when being admitted to class. 

About Alex Brooks 

Alex has been training dogs since the late 1970’s leading to an extensive background in all types of training.  He has worked with local police   department canine unites, and has trained dogs for narcotic sniffing.  He has worked with animal control doing evaluations and appearing in court as an expert witness.  He works closely with local animal shelters and rescue organizations doing volunteer work training dogs so they are easier to place in a forever home.  He trains dogs to help the physically challenged, allowing them to gain improved freedom, independence, and  quality of life.

His expertise in training dogs has gained the  attention of many well known sport superstars such as Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Tony Kokoc, Cliff Levingston, Maurice Douglas, Bobby Simmons, Antonio Davis and Jalen Rose, to name a few.  In addition, Alex has been called to audition, and has supplied dogs for, MTV videos, educational videos, and the Home Alone 3 movie.

His expertise was sought out by The Paw Stop in N.Y., N.Y. where he recently spent many months working with them to improve their training/behavioral program.

Alex speaks at many dog training/behavioral seminars and is a frequent guest on the local cable show Contempo.  He is certified in Reiki, which he incorporates into his behavioral techniques.  Alex feels blessed that when he goes to work every day he is doing what he loves.

Obedience Training Class

$200 (6 weeks) Mondays 7:00PM-8:00PM w/ Trainer Rick Hartke

This popular class is held Monday evenings from 7:00PM-8:00PM and is six weeks long.  Classes are held indoors in our spacious climate controlled facility.  There You will develop a basic understanding of dog behavior and learn to teach your dog to:

Heel (walking at your side), Sit, Sit and Stay, Lie Down, Lie Down and Stay, Come when Called on Leash

We also cover the topics of housebreaking,  chewing, biting, jumping, socialization and any specific problems you may be having with your dog.  We do limit the number of students to eight for each six week session.

Advanced/Distraction Class

$130 (4 weeks) Tuesdays 7:00PM-8:00PM w/ Trainer Alex Brooks

Training your dog is a lifetime commitment.  Don't stop with the basic on-leash training.  Continue your dogs training and education with this FUN advanced class.  Advanced/Distraction Class is held  Tuesday evenings from 7:00PM-8:00PM with Trainer Alex Brooks and is four weeks long.  Learn something new with your dog every week from:

Continued Obedience, Behavioral Work, Distraction Work (Noise & Prey), Off Leash Work, Small Obstacle Course (Jump, Ladder, Ramp, Tunnel, and more) plus FUN, FUN, FUN!

WE REQUIRE THAT YOUR DOG COMPLETE BASIC OBEDIENCE TRAINING BEFORE ENTEREING THIS CLASS.  We do limit the number of students to fifteen for each four week session.

CGC - Canine Good Citizen Class

$175/Class, $25/Testing (6 weeks with testing on week 6)                                                              Wednesdays 7:00PM-8:00PM w/ Trainer Rick Hartke and Tester Marcy Brooks

This certification class is held Wednesday evenings from 7:00PM-8:00PM and is six weeks long with final testing on the sixth day.

The CGC Program lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking and performance events.  As you work with your dog to teach the CGC skills, you'll discover the many benefits and joys of training your dog.  Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with, they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, and intellectual stimulation.   

Kids Class for Ages 8-14 years

$100 (4 weeks) Saturdays 12:00PM-12:45PM w/ Trainer Rick Hartke

Having the whole family understand dog training and behavior is important.  This Kids Class is held Saturday afternoons from 12:00PM-12:45PM and is four weeks long.  

1 week $700, 2 weeks $1250, 3 weeks $1825

With this program your dog stays at the Alex Brooks Canine Center located in Des Plaines, IL.  During this time the trainers work with your dog six days out of the week and teach him or her basic obedience and also address any specific issues you may be having with your dog.

This program focuses on the individual needs of each dog.  Obedience training also helps in calming down your dog and helps give them discipline and manners.  When your dog is ready to go home, we give you an hour demonstration of all that your dog has learned.  Finally you receive an hour long follow-up lesson free of charge, to review and to correct any problems you may be having.  The training that your pet receives is a foundation, and it is our job to build on that foundation together to guide you and your dog towards a gratifying lifetime relationship.
